To improve the service and reliability of the municipal water distribution system construction will soon begin on Thompson Street, Crafts Road and Rust Island Road. The project will involve the installation of new water mains, valves, and fire hydrants within the roadway layout by the City’s Contractor N. Granese & Sons, Inc., and their subcontractors.
Sequence and Schedule:
The water work is scheduled to begin on Thompson Street, Crafts Road, and Rust Island Road the week of January 15, 2024, and is anticipated to take 2 months to complete (weather dependent). Pending approval from the Conservation Commission, work will continue to Causeway Street, Ye Old County Road, and Biskie Head Point in February and is anticipated to take 3 months to complete (weather dependent).
The Contractor will be installing new water main, valves, and fire hydrants in the roadway layout, and installing new water services to each occupied property. The water work will require several planned short-term water service interruptions to all buildings on Thompson Street and Causeway Street and portions of connecting streets; additional notification of planned water shutdowns will be distributed. It is important to note that the installation of the water service from the property line to the building(s) will be the responsibility of each property owner and the requirements of the Gloucester Water Department and MassDEP must be met before the City activates the new water services to buildings with private wells.
