The Coalition for the Prevention of Domestic Abuse (CPDA)
CPDA is a multi-agency group that recently celebrated its 17th anniversary in October 2017. The purpose of the coalition is to increase community awareness and response to domestic abuse in the community. Coalition partners include the Essex County District Attorney’s office, Healing Abuse Working for Change (HAWC) and the Department of Children and Families.
CPDA has been able to work with these agencies as well as other community groups to create an emergency legal fund for victims, a High Risk Team to monitor cases with high risk of homicide, distribute a multilingual brochure, and to provide community trainings and educational workshops to clergy, youth, and adults. For more information about CPDA efforts or to become involved, contact the Gloucester Public Health Nurse at (978) 325-5266.
The HAWC Hotline at (800) 547-1649 can be contacted for support and resources. The hotline is staffed by supportive and caring people who can help with accessing shelter, getting crisis intervention, and can provide information on filing for a restraining order.
Gloucester Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Partnership (GCSAPP)
The Gloucester Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Partnership (GCSAPP) is a public-private partnership that leads child sexual abuse prevention efforts on Cape Ann. The GCSAPP mission is to increase community awareness through public education, positive media attention to support healthy relationships, and policy changes that will ensure safe environments for all children and adolescents. GCSAPP is active within the school system and is available for community trainings and workshops upon request. For more information, contact Jetta Bernier (617) 742-8555 extension 2.
