COVID-19 INFORMATION
GIVEN THE RAPIDLY CHANGING CIRCUMSTANCES, WE WILL BE UPDATING THIS INFORMATION REGULARLY.


HEALTH GUIDANCE AND RECOMMENDATIONS
According to the CDC, symptoms of the virus appear within 2-14 days of exposure.  The DPH reports that symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, shortness of breath and pneumonia in severe cases.

If you display symptoms or suspect that you have come into contact with a person who may be infected, please contact your Primary Care Physician immediately.  The Gloucester Health Department and the Mayor's Office encourage the following precautions to prevent infectious diseases from spreading:

  • Wash your hands frequently, with soap and water
  • If you are sick, stay home to protect others
  • Using proper techniques when coughing and sneezing
  • Avoiding touching your face
  • Clean frequently touched surfaces and objects daily
  • Practice social distancing (remain at least 6 feet of distance between others)
  • Restrict all social interactions to essential activities, such as getting food, medicine and gas.

CITY OPERATIONS INFORMATION
All Municipal Buildings - including City Hall, City Hall Annex, Gloucester Public Schools, the Rose Baker Senior Center, the Lyceum & Sawyer Free Library, Department of Public Works Administrative Offices, Cape Ann Veterans Services Office, Talbot Rink and Newell Stadium will remain closed until May 4th. 

During this time City offices will be minimally staffed to provide core municipal services. Departments will continue to be available by phone and email to respond to inquiries, manage on-line requests and in some instances arrange for pick-up of materials/documents.  If there is an unavoidable need to conduct business in person with a City department, individuals can call the respective department in advance to schedule an appointment.  There are drop boxes at City Hall (Warren Street entrance) and City Hall Annex for the public to drop off pertinent documents.  These drop boxes will be emptied and all documents will be time stamped daily.  The City is only accepting personal checks or money orders in the drop box.  Please no cash payments.

Due to high call volume, we encourage everyone to leave a message and City staff will return calls.


Residents may conduct many transactions online.  Visit the City’s website

The Gloucester Police and Fire Departments are restricting access to their stations/lobbies.  For emergencies please call 9-1-1.  For police non-emergencies please call (978) 283-1212 and for fire non-emergencies please call (978) 325-5300.

Trash and recycling pick up services remain on schedule.

SCHOOL INFORMATION

 As mandated by Governor Charlie Baker all Gloucester Public Schools will be closed.  During that time all schools will undergo deep cleanings.

  • All Gloucester Public Schools remain closed until at least May 4th.  There is a “grab and go” bagged lunch and breakfast operation available for ALL students who are in need of a meal.  Curbside pick up is available 11 am to 12 pm, Monday through Friday, at Veterans Memorial and Beeman Elementary Schools.  Neighborhood bus deliveries are now available at the following locations:
    • Veterans Way (Riverdale Park) from 10:45 am - 11:15 am
    • Willowood Road (next to the park) from 11:30 am - 12:00 pm

  • All school field trips (out-of-state and in-state) and all school events have been cancelled through and including May 3rd. 
  • During the school closure, children should not gather with others outside their family except if outside in very small numbers and maintaining social distancing of at least 6 feet apart.  Everyone should refrain from play dates, sleepovers, etc.

  • Children should not be left with grandparents as this group is very susceptible to the virus.

BUSINESS OWNERS AND NON-PROFIT INFORMATION

ACCESS TO FOOD/MEALS
The Open Door will be able to help bridge the grocery gap for families.
  • The Gloucester Food Pantry is open Monday - Friday, 10 am to 5 pm for curbside pick up: clients are asked not to enter the building.  Pull up to the front of the building on Emerson Ave., and a volunteer or staff member will bring you groceries prepacked for your household size.  If you work during these hours, or are quarantined and unable to pick up groceries, please call (978) 283-6776 or email 
  • Community Meals is available by take-out only, with curbside pick-up between 3-5 pm, Monday - Friday, with extra food provided on Fridays for the weekend.  Pull up to the front of the building on Emerson Ave., and a volunteer or staff member will bring you meals prepacked for your household size.  For those unable to pick up at the pantry, please call (978) 283-6776 x 204 by 3 pm to arrange a deliver by a volunteer.  Leave your name, phone number, address, and the number of meals requested.  You must call each day that you need a meal.

SeniorCare is continuing to provide services in Gloucester.  All home delivered meals are going out as usual with enhanced social distancing protocols.  If you know of an elder that is home bound, has no one to cook for them and/or can not prepare a meal themselves, have them sign up for Meals On Wheels by calling SeniorCare at (978) 281-1750.

OTHER COMMUNITY INFORMATION

  • Market Basket, Shaw's and Stop & Shop have implemented "Senior Shopping Hours" for customers 60 and older. 
    • Market Basket hours are 5:30 am - 7 am Tues, Weds & Thurs
    • Shaw's hours are 7 am - 9 am Tues & Thurs
    • Stop & Shop hours are 6:30 am - 7:30 am everyday

  • All playgrounds are closed until further notice.  Please do not engage in sports or activities (i.e. baseball, softball, football, basketball, soccer, etc.) that require physical or shared contact.
  • All personal care businesses in the City are closed by emergency order until further notice.
  • There is currently no on-premise consumption at any local restaurants.  Take-out and delivery options are available throughout the City.  For a list of participating establishments visit: Community-supporting-community-local-restaurants-offer-take-out-options
