Gloucester's Shared Streets Public Engagement Session
Tuesday, February 23, 2021
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is currently accepting applications for its Shared Streets and Spaces initiative to help municipalities address the particular challenges faced by businesses in the winter/spring amid the ongoing public health crisis. The Shared Winter Streets and Spaces program will provide cities and towns with grants to improve plazas, sidewalks, curbs, streets, parking areas, and other public spaces in support of public health, safe mobility, and renewed commerce.
The City of Gloucester has applied for funding to support physical improvements in the downtown area to improve mobility in anticipation of a strong late winter/spring increase in activity and foot traffic in the downtown area, as we likely return to extensive use of outdoor spaces as businesses continue to adapt to ever-changing limits on capacity.
